The Silver Strand Project provides pedestrian access to a very interesting strip
of land just south of the City of Coronado. Beautifully designed to recall gull wings. The copper rails have
poetry etched into them.
This wonderful project is a perfect example of inspired use of ecologically sensitive land near urban centers. This decking has weathered to bright silver gray in the salt spray environment. These sensuous platforms provide a real alternative to the roadway that is the only other man-made element on this narrow strip of land. The walkway that parallels the highway is well used and many people take a break on the wings. One inch by five and one half-inch net dimension ipe was used for the deck. The copper railing has weathered to a lovely green. Builder: DRP Consruction Co Designer: Schmidt Design Group Species: Ipé Date: 2000-2002 |
